Assessment Handbook - Initial Teacher Education: PGCE (England, N Ireland, Wales) and PGDE (Scotland)

1.1 Types of assessment

You will be assessed through the submission of portfolios at the end of Needs Analysis and each level. The portfolios include:

  • Reports: School Experience Reports are written by mentors and school coordinators at the end of the school placements. School Visit Reports and Portfolio Reports are written by tutors after the school visits and after marking the portfolio, respectively.
  • Audits: at each level, you are asked to update your audits and reflect on your progress.
  • Assessment tasks: at Needs Analysis and at each level, you are required to work through and submit tasks to demonstrate your understanding of key issues, how you have learnt from the module materials, how you relate this to your school practice and your progress towards the outcomes of the course.
  • Evidence: of your developing understanding, skills and knowledge, and of your progress towards the outcomes of the course.
