How do I apply for financial support?

When you reserve a place on a module, let us know if you want to apply for financial support. The easiest way to apply for financial support is to use the online financial support application and if you reserve online you will be taken to this automatically.

You should complete the online application, print it and post it to us with the required evidence. Unfortunately we cannot accept applications by fax or email as we require your original signature(s) on the application form. We can send you a printed form if you prefer. If you reserve by another method, we'll send you details of how to apply.

Please allow plenty of time for your application to be assessed, particularly if you are registering close to the registration deadline.

Do I have to complete a new financial support application for every course/module or each year?

You will need to reapply for financial support in each academic year; the academic year runs from September to August. If you study more than one module of 30 or more credits in that academic year, we can use the same application for both modules. If you have already been awarded support in an academic year, when you reserve on your next module tell us you wish to pay using financial support and your original application will be reviewed. If you reserve online you will be taken to the online financial support application where you can add your new module to the existing application.

I have sent in my completed financial support application and have not heard anything. What should I do?

The Financial Support Office aims to process applications for financial support within ten working days of receipt, but at peak times this may take considerably longer and we apologise for any delay.

We will send confirmation that we have received your financial support application within seven days of its arrival in our office. If we have sent you confirmation that we have received your application we ask that you do not telephone to check on progress. We will let you know the outcome as soon as your application has been processed.

What is meant by certified ID when applying for financial help?

The first time you make an application for financial support to the University you must provide a copy of either your birth certificate or passport, certified as a true copy of the original document by someone from the approved list detailed in the financial support application guidance notes. Please note that you do not need to know the person who certifies your identification; they are confirming that your documents are true copies of the original, not that they know you. Please ensure you follow the guidance notes carefully when providing certified ID as incorrectly certified documents will result in your application being delayed. If you are required to provide proof of your right to remain in the United Kingdom, these documents should also be certified in accordance with the guidance notes.

I have been asked to provide a copy of a P60 but I will not receive it for a while. What should I do?

When we process an application for financial support we will use your income from the last completed financial year. You should have received the P60 from the last completed financial year in April/May. If you do not have this, you could submit a copy of your month 12 or week 52 (or 53) payslip giving a "Gross pay to date" figure or a statement of earnings from your employer for the last completed financial year.
