Student reviews

I really liked and enjoyed studying this course which covered aspects of the social psychology of sport. I was surprised by the breadth and depth of research into the subject areas and we were expected to read and understand in-depth scientific research articles.

Coming from a background where quantitative research was dominant, I was at first sceptical about the value of qualitative studies which form the basis of much of the course. My views changed as journal readings provided fascinating insights into athletic experiences.

The things I really loved about the course were the real and fascinating experiences of athletes (both famous and unknown), their families, and their support teams. The framework for athlete development in the first part of the course was a good foundation for later studies with some great stories of young athletes. The sections on the coach-athlete relationship and the transitions faced by athletes were highlights.

As a third-level course, students are expected to critically analyse recent research articles and for this analysis to form the foundation of their assignments. I found it useful to be active in our tutor group forum and enjoyed and learnt from contributions from our tutor and fellow students.

I would recommend this course to those whose passion is sport and athlete development.

Module satisfaction survey

The figures below are taken from a survey of students who sat the exam/completed the end-of-module assessment for the October 2016 presentation of E313. The survey was carried out in 2017.

51 students (a response rate of 22%) responded to the survey covering what they thought of 10 aspects of the module.

Please note that if the percentage of students who responded to this module survey is below 30% and/or the number of responses is below 23 it means that only a small proportion of students provided feedback and their views as shown here may not be fully representative of all students who studied the module.

See this page for the full text of questions and more information about the survey.
