A very good introduction to the theory and methods of fractal geometry, though the discussion of applications is necessarily limited. The set book by Falconer is excellent, giving a better treatment of the material than I could find in other sources.

The course notes follow the book and have good illustrative and clarifying examples. Formalism is not avoided. I felt the exam was fair, and reasonably predictable based on the tutor-marked assignments but still contained some interesting twists.

I am glad I took this module.

Personally I loved this module and I was kind of sad when it ended!

You will need a module in basic point-set topology and real analysis behind you as you have to have your analytic chops about you at times.

If you were afraid of real analysis at undergraduate level then don't do the module.

The module is a perfect blend of real (and a little complex in the final chapter) and geometry on the real line, the plane and in 3-dimensions with the Manga Sponge problem!

The book is occasionally a bit of a difficult read and it seriously lacks diagram, which is quite ironic given that 'geometry' is in the title. However, a quick search on the web will solve your problems when the book lacks.

The exam is great. I went into the exam expecting 100% and I got close enough. Do the module!
