Student reviews

Incredibly disappointing course.

Module materials didn't do a good job teaching or engaging student interest.
Poor standard of teaching makes the course a bore and chore to work through which makes higher workload as your learning bottlenecks.

For an online course the website and materials should be a lot better.

Tutorials, it seems absurded that no kind of email reminder system is set-up for tutorials.

Faculty response

The Module Team are sorry that you weren’t satisfied with the module. The S(XF)206 materials have been reviewed by external assessors and examiners, and they form a major part of the Environmental Science qualification which is accredited by the Institution of Environmental Sciences (IES). We aim to make the materials as engaging as possible and the module includes many interactive activities which cover a wide range of practical aspects of environmental science. We are continually developing the module in response to feedback and have just undertaken a major review of module content and structure for the October 2018 and subsequent presentations.

We appreciate your suggestion of email reminders for tutorials. But since this is not something that is currently offered for any module, we will endeavour to pass your suggestion to the appropriate university colleagues to consider it.

Great course, very enjoyable content. The fieldwork element is really worthwhile and helped improve my understanding of the course content. I'd recommend keeping up with the study planner to be best prepared for the fieldwork. Studying online entirely can be a little tiresome and I found slowed me down, it's unlikely people will print out all of the study material to offset this. There were many errata left in material and this wasn't very helpful, but I suppose to be expected during a first presentation of the module. All-in-all, very science based, be prepared to use prior knowledge, and stay up to date! Exam was fair and TMAs were reasonable.
