An ability to write academic English at a suitable level of competency for OU level 3 is a course pre-assumption. However, tutor-marked assignment essay marks seemed to be one noticeable area discussed on the forums where students expressed concern about lost marks. Therefore, it may be necessary for some prospective students to study a module such as English for Academic Purposes Online (L185).
Additionally, at minimum I would recommend reading the OU Good Study Guide Chapter 10: 'Writing the way they want' or the OU Sciences Good Study Guide Chapter 9: 'Writing and assignments'. Acquisition of such skills will be especially important for TM470 or study at MSc level.
I thought TM352 was one of the most interesting, well-presented and topical modules I've studied with the OU so far. The activities and programming tasks required should be within the grasp of any student who applies themselves to their studies. However, in some cases, the student will need to work out their own solutions to the programming task, as would be expected at this level. Due to such topicality and subject range, I felt TM352 would be one of the modules I could pursue in greater depth for TM470. I'm a 'happy camper' with this module as I obtained the grade for which I aimed.
