Student reviews

What a module!
From start to finish this module was the most enjoyable I had studied through my whole Open University experience!

The supplied module notes were excellent and really complemented the set book. The tutorials and tutors were fabulous, lots of handy tips were provided. Both tutor-marked assignments and final exam were very fair with a few testing parts as you would expect.

Overall Coding Theory was a joy to study and I would definitely recommend it to anyone!

Very accessible course. The beginning parts are perhaps the most taxing, and the middle two quarters of the course are, perhaps, a little samey. The last part of the course I found the most interesting.

Overall, not terribly difficult, but there is a lot of donkey work involved: you can't get around that, the techniques need to be learned for any kind of success in the final examination.

Module satisfaction survey

The figures below are taken from a survey of students who sat the exam/completed the end-of-module assessment for the October 2016 presentation of M836. The survey was carried out in 2017.

36 students (a response rate of 43.9%) responded to the survey covering what they thought of 10 aspects of the module.

Please note that if the percentage of students who responded to this module survey is below 30% and/or the number of responses is below 23 it means that only a small proportion of students provided feedback and their views as shown here may not be fully representative of all students who studied the module.

See this page for the full text of questions and more information about the survey.

The fact that 91.7% of respondents would recommend this module to other students is also a pleasing result.
