IET is excited to announce that Her Majesty the Queen has bestowed a Regius Professorship in Open Education on the Open University, and the first incumbent is our own Professor Eileen Scanlon. A Regius Professorship is a very rare privilege as only two have been created during the last century and it reflects the exceptionally high quality of teaching and research at an institution. The OU is one of twelve institutions which have been honoured in this way to celebrate Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee.

IET’s Director, Professor Josie Taylor, shared the news in an email to IET with the words “I am thrilled, delighted, proud and honoured to announce that one of these has been awarded to … Eileen Scanlon”. Eileen is recognised internationally in the educational technology field and the public understanding of science.
