The OU in London serves students right across London. We’re based in Camden Town and our 100 staff and 850 tutors support 18,000 students by phone, email and through tutorials at 22 study centres in London.
Our Regional Centre is a hub for enquirers and students, with regular open events to give you a feel for what it's like to study with the OU. If you are thinking about studying with the OU or are trying to decide which course is right for you, you can come and view course materials in the Library at the Regional Centre on weekdays between 9.00am and 4.30pm.
We work with libraries, museums and other organisations across the city to provide a busy programme of events throughout the year, aimed at people who are new to the OU or who have had some time away from study. Come along for an informal conversation to get answers to your questions about courses, study methods and how to fit study around the rest of your life.

topSaturday 10 March 2012, 11.00am-5.00pm
Cromwell Road, London SW7 2RL
Take part in this day of inspiring talks introducing the study of objects in popular culture, past and present. Taking a lead from the new Open University module, A151 Making Sense of Things: an introduction to material culture, this day will be an opportunity to look at how scholars have used the study of objects and their contexts to shed light on the past as well as what happens to those objects when taken out of their original setting.
We will also discuss the power invested in objects through commodification, memory and ownership and how they are observed, described, written about, employed and displayed within disciplines such as archaeology, history and anthropology. This will be illustrated with reference to artefacts held by the museum including ceramics, relics and reliquaries.
Alongside talks given by Open University lecturers there will be opportunities to get closer to objects though smaller sessions and discuss them in greater detail as well as parallel creative writing workshops using objects in the museum’s collection for inspiration.
There are limited places available for this event. Tickets are free but please book in advance by visiting the link below.

Through 'partnership' and contract agreements local colleges, universities and other bodies provide facilities for Open University staff to meet their students for tutorials at the following places in London:
Actual tutorial provision at individual locations depends on the overall tutorial programme and level of demand.
topThe Open University is supporting national charity School Governors’ One-Stop Shop to encourage more people to volunteer as School Governors.
Being a Governor allows you to make a positive difference to the lives and aspirations of local children and provides a fantastic opportunity for personal and professional development. Open University students who have already volunteered for this role within their local schools have found the experience both challenging and extremely rewarding.
School Governors are the most important voluntary workers in education BUT there can still be as many as 40,000 vacant places across England at any one time!
Please see the attached for further information about the School Governors’ One-Stop Shop and how to get involved.

topThe Open University in London has for the third year joined with the Royal Geographical Society's Ambassador Scheme to recruite undergraduate and postgraduate geography students to work with children in secodary schools in Greater London in the 11 - 19 age groups. The aim is to enthuse and inform young people about the relevance of geography in practice and in career development and to enlighten them about geography at HE level. Ambassadors do not need prior experience of working with children just a desire to be a positive role model in the promotion of studying geography.
The attached PDF document provides further information about the scheme, a list of training dates at the Royal Geographical Society's HQ in Kensington, and how to register for training.
