Research Degrees in Sponsoring Establishments Student Handbook

6 Fees > 6.1 Fees

Registration fees are paid as a single non-refundable composite fee. The amount is the same whether you’re studying full time, part time, in the UK or overseas.
The fee is payable on initial registration and then, in advance, on 1 October each year. It’s payable every year or part-year throughout registration, up to and including the year in which you submit your thesis for examination.
There’s no reduction of the fee if you suspend your studies (see Section 5.5 Suspending registration) for a period shorter than twelve consecutive months.

Responsibility for payment

You are responsible for paying your fees, but the sponsoring establishment is responsible for collecting them and sending them to the University. Invoices are issued to the sponsoring establishment by the University’s Finance Division, and payments should be accompanied by a reference to the appropriate invoice number.

  • no fee is payable if your degree is awarded subject to substantial amendment but without resubmission for further examination
  • the fee is payable for any year or part of a year in which you’re required to undertake major revision and resubmission.
