Research Degrees Student Handbook 2012-2013

2.2 Names and addresses

If you change your name or address you must tell the Research Degrees Office in writing, even if you’ve already told your supervisor. If you’re changing your name you must provide appropriate documentary evidence such as:

  • a marriage certificate
  • a birth certificate, or
  • a deed poll.

If you are a transgender student transitioning to a different gender, we can update our University records to reflect your new name and gender upon receipt of a letter explaining that you intend to undergo gender reassignment. However, we require evidence of legal name change before we can issue a degree certificate in your preferred name, such as:

  • a statutory declaration of name change
  • a birth certificate in your new name, or
  • a deed poll.
