Roles & requirements

Appointments will be offered for Open University summer residential schools in 2010. The schools will be held in July and August (except SXR208). Accommodation is provided, usually in standard undergraduate rooms, and you will need to be fully resident at the site throughout your appointment.

Schools will be held at the universities of Bath, Durham, Queen Mary University London, Nottingham, Sussex and York. Some modern language schools will also be held at Caen, Jena and Santiago. SXR208 will be held in Mallorca (application period November 2009). Most schools run at only a few of the sites and you would normally be appointed to the one nearest to your home.

Applications from Open University associate lecturers, host university staff and other academics who have appropriate qualifications and experience are invited for these posts. The ratio of staff to students will vary from course to course, from about 1:8 to 1:13. In exceptional circumstances and for particular duties, individual tutors may be invited in writing to accept specified additional responsibilities. The rate of pay will be adjusted accordingly, details of the remuneration and additional responsibilities will be stated in the Offer Letter.

For tutor, senior tutor and group tutor positions, suitable Open University associate lecturers will usually be given preference over equally well-qualified outside applicants (whether those applicants have successful residential school experience or not).
