How to apply
The Open University operates a normal retirement age of 65. Applications can only be accepted from people up to the age of 64 years and 6 months, provided that the applicant would be under the age of 65 when they commence work for the University. This is in line with the Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006.
However, new applicants for small short-term contracts to support service delivery to students, such as residential schools, which end before the normal retirement age of 65 may also be considered under the normal recruitment process. The University retains the right to consider new applicants over the age of 65 only where delivery to students would otherwise be adversely affected.
Current Associate Lecturers should refer to Tutorhome for detailed information on the University retirement procedures and applications for employment: http://www.open.ac.uk/tutors/employment-info/pages/policy/employment_equality_age_regulations_2006.htm

back to topApplying for a Disability Support role
Please ensure that you have read the job description roles in Roles and Requirements.
The following application forms are available for the following roles:
Disability Support Assistant/Co-ordinator (School)
Disability Support Assistant (Register).
The work of the Disability Support roles brings the jobholder into contact with children and vulnerable adults at residential schools. Accordingly, successful applicants will be asked to apply for an Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check.
The CRB provides access to criminal record and other relevant information to organisations in England and Wales. The results of the checks carried out by the CRB help us make more informed decisions when recruiting people to work with children and vulnerable adults, ensuring greater protection for the vulnerable and affording greater protection to our students, staff, and volunteers.
Appointment to these roles is subject to a satisfactory disclosure being received from the Criminal Records Bureau.
As a result of the new Vetting and Barring Scheme applicants need to be aware that there will be some changes to the checking process in July 2010 in accordance with the scheme.
