Business administration is about performance and change. To respond quickly and flexibly to rapidly changing markets and environments, organisations put great emphasis on lateral coordination. Managers need a broad, integrated picture of how their organisations work. They also need to consider compromises, tensions and interdependencies between various specialist functional issues (e.g. marketing, finance and ‘people’ issues).
The Postgraduate Certificate in Business Administration will provide you with a comprehensive grounding in managerial work disciplines, in particular the management of teams, departments and projects. You will become familiar with a wide variety of techniques and approaches, improve your interpersonal skills and self-awareness, and be exposed to a diverse range of managerial challenges and contexts. By the time you have completed this qualification you will have a broad base of practical skills that will enable you to be an effective, productive manager anywhere in the world. The skills of the reflective practitioner are an important theme throughout the course.
The study programme offers you the opportunity to step back from your current situation and concentrate on understanding and improving performance, managing projects and change. The emphasis is on your own professional development and everything you study is related to management roles and responsibilities you exercise. The elements of the programme – course texts, activities and assignments, online resources, and personal and group support – ensure that you can immediately apply newly learned skills and techniques in very practical ways. You can build on your experience and satisfy your management development needs wherever you are and whatever the size of your organisation, whether it is commercial, nongovernmental or public sector.
The Postgraduate Certificate is a recognised qualification. It also provides direct entry into Stage 2 of the masters degrees we offer in business and management, which comprise three MBAs, the MPA, the MSc in Human Resource Management and the MSc in International Finance and Management.
