The Open University has developed a range of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses for teachers to update their skills while in the classroom. These courses have been designed specifically to fit into teacher workloads, so they can easily be studied through one full term. All the courses enable you to try out techniques as you study, giving immediate impact in the classroom. Most courses are valid at both Primary and Secondary phases.
We also have a course to help people become school governors.
Primary Languages
Although no longer government mandate, we have developed a series of courses for teaching languages in the Primary phase. We recommend Teaching primary languages (GE026) as the first course, and then choose one of the language courses for basic grammar and vocabulary within the classroom context.
See the list of all our Professional skills courses.
Are issues regarding the performance of the people you manage a constant headache to you? Use Managing performance through people (GB002) to look at the different approaches to managing performance and identify how these fit to your own context. Develop appropriate performance plans through the course and explore other development requirements.
