Our full-time Master of Research (MRes) degree provides training to an advanced level in a range of management and business research methods. It will be particularly relevant if you work in a commercial or professional environment where research plays a significant role, or if you plan to study for a PhD. 

As well as the MRes (Management and Business), the University offers MRes study in Education, Educational Technology, Human Geography, Social Sciences and Technology Strategy.

For all six subjects, the MRes consists of five modules. All students must complete:
  • Module A: An Introduction to social research
  • Module B1: Qualitative research methods – this is a prerequisite for Module B2
  • Module C1: Quantitative research methods – this is a prerequisite for Module C2
  • Module D: Dissertation

MRes Management and Business students must also complete:

  • The module Management and business research, which examines how research is carried out in management settings and some of the distinctive problems and issues that management researchers are likely to face.

Entry requirements:
Applicants should normally hold, or be expecting to obtain, a bachelors degree with at least upper second-class honours, or an equivalent qualification. The MRes requires a considerable level of independent study and well developed English language skills. If English is not your first language, you may want to take advice before making a formal application. You can do this by contacting the Programme Manager.
