Getting started with an Access module

Access Courses

The OU offers a range of Access modules that have been specially designed to help you find out what it’s like to study with the OU, get a taste of a subject area, develop your study skills, and build your confidence. They are perfect for new learners with little or no knowledge or experience of studying and use the same top-quality teaching materials and study support we’re famous for. They’re also fascinating and fun to do!

There are no academic entry requirements for these modules. They are designed for people who do not have qualifications at the level traditionally required for university entry. If you are not sure about whether an Access module is the right starting point for you, have a go at our Where should I start quiz.

You can study these modules as an additional preparatory stage of your chosen qualification, or as a standalone module but whichever option you choose, you will receive all the preparation you need to be a successful university student.

Our Access modules are only available to students living in England, Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, or those who have a British Forces Post Office (BFPO) address.

Where will you be resident whilst you study?
Are you already an OU student ? Go to StudentHome for information on choosing your next module.
