This degree will demonstrate that you understand and can apply the key concepts, methods and theories in the areas of technology you’ve studied. By using a range of media and equipment, you’ll develop skills of communication, critical reading, analysis, exposition and reporting, plus an ability to learn independently.
If you’ve not studied for some time or are new to the OU, we recommend that you start with a 30-point course at Level 1. For this degree that would mean starting with Engineering the future (T173) or Networked living: exploring information and communication technologies (T175). Once completed successfully you’ll have a firm foundation for future studies at higher levels as well as credit points to count towards your Technology honours degree.
You can register your intention to study for this degree when you reserve your place on individual courses, or you can ask us at any time to link courses that you have already studied towards the degree. This gives you the flexibility to delay your decision or to change your mind as your studies progress. There is no time limit for obtaining the required credit points for this qualification. You must include at least 120 points from OU courses that have not been counted in an OU diploma or other first degree you have been awarded. If you have graduated with an OU BSc degree without honours this requirement is reduced to 60 points.
Technology graduates are employed in nearly all sectors of the economy where there’s a need to understand and manage the interactions between technologies and people at work, from heavy industry to financial services. Students are attracted to the private sector and are also widely found in the public sector. This degree offers a broad perspective on technology and particular strengths in ICTs, environment, design and innovation and technology management depending on the particular courses studied. It may help you to gain recognition from a professional body.
