Please note that this Shortened BA/BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care is only available until 31 December 2012. In order to claim your qualification you must have completed the required 120 credits by this time. The faculty is no longer accepting new applications for the Shortened BA/BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care.
If you do not expect to complete the Shortened BA/BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care before the end of 2012, you can apply for credit transfer to the ‘long’ version of the BA/BSc (Honours) Health and Social Care (B18) for any previous study undertaken. Please note that the B18 qualification has a ten-year time limit. This means that at the point of graduation all study – including that for which credit transfer is applied – must have been completed within the past ten years.

This degree is for holders of a Diploma in Social Work or a Diploma of Higher Education in a relevant subject, who are also qualified health care professionals (e.g. nurses, social workers, midwives, occupational therapists, health visitors) and who wish to ‘top-up’ their existing 240 CATS points to the BA/BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care.

All the modules in this degree course put emphasis on crossing professional boundaries with a focus on the perspectives of the service user. This means that it’s closely attuned to priorities in the health and social care sectors and the NHS modernisation agenda. The degree will be of interest to anyone who works, or has a particular interest, in health, social work or social care in the statutory, voluntary or private sectors.

If you have already completed some successful study at higher education level at another institution we may be able to give you credit that you can count towards this Open University qualification. Further details will be available when registration opens for this qualification.
On successful completion of the required number and type of modules you will be awarded a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science (Honours) Health and Social Care degree. Your honours degree will be classified either as first-class honours, upper second-class honours, lower second-class honours or third-class honours. Your degree will be classified on the basis of your study of Open University modules only (the class of your DipHE will not affect the class of your degree). You will have the opportunity to attend a degree ceremony.
