If are currently studying toward this degree – Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (B24) – you must have completed the required 360 credits by 31 December 2014. This 360-credit honours degree course offers an opportunity to pursue a programme in general engineering, with some specialisation in one of several engineering disciplines. Its learning outcomes are closely aligned with the Quality Assurance Agency’s benchmark statement for engineering: they include acquisition of knowledge and understanding, intellectual abilities, practical skills and general transferable skills in your chosen area of study.

On graduation you may be eligible to apply (via an appropriate engineering institution) to the Engineering Council (ECUK) for registration as Incorporated Engineer, or you might want to work towards Chartered Engineer status by undertaking more academic study. If you have already completed some successful study at higher education level at another institution we may be able to give you credit that you can count towards this Open University qualification. Further details will be available when registration opens for this qualification.
On successful completion of the required modules you will be awarded a BEng (Hons) degree and will be entitled to use the letters BEng (Hons) (Open) after your name. Your degree will be classified as either first-class honours, upper second-class honours, lower second-class honours or third-class honours. The class of degree is determined by the best grades you achieve in a minimum of 120 and up to 240 credits from Technology, Mathematics or Science modules at Level 2 or above, which must include the Level 3 project module, whether or not it is among your best Level 3 grades, and at least 90 credits from other Level 3 modules not including T397. The modules that are used to classify your degree must not have already been used to classify a previous degree that you hold. You will have the opportunity to attend a degree ceremony.
