The Certificate in Mental Health Studies aims to:

  • develop your knowledge and understanding of mental health and distress in relation to individuals, institutions and the wider society
  • help you explore the diverse and frequently competing perspectives that characterise the world of mental health
  • develop and improve practice in health and social care services for people experiencing mental distress or ill-health.

Career relevance and employability

This qualification is relevant to you if you work in any aspect of health and social care, although particularly if you work in the NHS and within voluntary sector agencies and charities – for example in befriending schemes or as an advocacy and support worker. The certificate will provide theory to underpin your support roles, and is a good starting point from which to enter a range of professional roles.
