This certificate is awarded for successful completion of six 10-point Level 1 courses. It aims to encourage a broad interest in science through the study of a range of science topics, and to develop your skills as an independent learner.

Knowledge and understanding are acquired from teaching materials which include specially prepared teaching texts, video and DVD, and computer-aided learning (CAL) packages. The teaching materials use a variety of learning approaches including self-assessment and in-text questions.
You will work independently with the teaching materials, but are encouraged to discuss your learning with other students, communicating by online forums. Study Advisers will support your learning on the telephone and via online forums.
Students taking SXR103 as part of the certificate will also have tutorials and face-to-face tutor support at the week-long residential school.
